Griffin Crossed The Line And Now She’s Paying The Price

Comedian Kathy Griffin got backlashed after a twitter picture. The comedian published an image of her holding up a bloody head, resembling President Donald Trump. And of course, the whole subject went viral.

The actress removed the image and issued an apology. However, people are not having it, both detractors and Trump supporters made a call out to Griffin.

Griffin crossed the line by far

Kathy Griffin joined the list of celebrities who joked about President Trump’s death. Already on the list was Snoop Dogg, who a few months ago released his Lavender video. In which he shoots with a plastic gun a clown President.

On Tuesday, Griffin posted a photographic work of Taylor Shields. In the picture, she’s holding up a bloody head that resembles President Trump.Griffin, an outspoken critic of Trump, likely knew the images would draw some negative attention.

In a behind-the-scenes video posted by Shields that has since been removed, Griffin can be heard joking with Shields about moving to Mexico after the images were released.

“We’re not surviving this, okay?” she said in the footage. Shields, the photographer, is known for this kind of work. His photos of a bloody, knife-wielding Lindsay Lohan were among his most headline-generating pictures to date.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly before Griffin’s apology, Shields, the photographer, said that he and the comedian had discussed doing something. She told him: “I’m not afraid to get political if you want or make a statement if you want.”

Shields added: “Fortunately, we have freedom of speech and all art is generally protected by these things.”The photographer also expressed his thoughts regarding potential backlash. “You want people to love you, but part of that is that if you make things that are polarizing, people are gonna hate it., “ he said.

Then he finished by saying, “I think there will be a lot of people who will absolutely hate this, but again, that’s the beauty of it.”

People’s reaction

However, messing with the President was a whole different issue and Griffin decided to pull out the picture and issued an apology.

The comedian took Instagram to issue a mea culpa for participating in the gruesome photo shoot. She aid, “I’m a comic. I cross the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far.”She then said, “The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn’t funny. I get it.”

Both supporters and detractors of President Trump jumped in to call out Griffin about the picture and the message it sends.Violence is never, and should never be encouraged. Most people stressed the fact that whether people like it or not Trump is now the President-elect, which takes to a different level his security.

In fact, the U.S Secret Service has opened an inquiry into the posting of Griffin. “We’re aware of it and we’re investigating it,” the of the Secret Service spokesman, George Fernandez, told Reuters.

Different members of the Trump family shared their thoughts on the picture. In a statement, first lady Melania Trump said that “as a mother, a wife, and a human being, that photo is very disturbing.”

Donald Trump Jr. was especially incensed, tweeting the photo was “disgusting but not surprising.” Celebrities and people took Twitter also to express their thoughts. Including Debra Messing and others.

Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, wrote on Twitter. “This is vile and wrong, It is never funny to joke about killing a president.”

Senator Al Franken called Griffin a friend and “terrific comedian” who made a horrible mistake,”  condemning the grisly photo and photo-shoot video as having “no business being in our public discourse.”

President Trump also took to Twitter to criticize the picture.

Griffin lost more than her reputation

Following Griffin’s disturbing viral picture, several companies have terminated their agreements with her, the most noticeable being CNN.

On Wednesday, CNN announced the termination after earlier criticizing the photos as “disgusting and offensive.” ;”CNN has terminated our agreement with Kathy Griffin to appear on our New Year’s Eve program,” read the statement. The network fired the comedian from its annual New Year’s Eve, in which the two-time Emmy-winning performer, has appeared since 2007 as co-host.

Utah-based company Squatty Potty, a line of footstools for toilets, said Tuesday it was “shocked and disappointed” and was pulling out a new ad campaign starring Griffin.

“It was deeply inappropriate and runs contrary to the core values our company stands for,” Squatty Potty chief executive officer Bobby Edwards said in a statement. “We have acted swiftly and decisively to demonstrate our commitment to a culture of decency, civility, and tolerance.”

The furor also cost Griffin a show at the Route 66 Casino Hotel outside Albuquerque, New Mexico. Management of the Laguna Pueblo tribe-operated establishment decided to cancel a one-night appearance by Griffin scheduled for July 22, a spokesman said.
