Jesse Lacey‬ Issues Apology After Revelations On His Sexual Misconduct‬‬

Lacey Is Facing Backlash After Sexually Misbehaving With Teenager Girls

Singer Jesse Lacey was accused of sexual misconduct on Friday. The revelation was made by a woman via a Facebook post. On Sunday, Lacey issued an apology statement and the band recently announced the cancellation of their upcoming Europe Tour.

Lacey’s sexual misconduct allegations

Singer Jessey Lacey was accused by a woman named Nicole Elizabeth Garvey of sexual misconduct on Facebook. Nicole shared her experience with a Facebook thread by former Brand New guitar tech Brian K. Diaz about rumors surrounding Lacey.

According to Garvey, the singer and guitarist had “solicited nudes” from her when she was 15 years old and he 24 years old and also pressured her into watching him masturbate on Skype.

Manipulated the hell out of me, demanded specific poses/settings/clothing, demeaned me, and made it clear that my sexuality was the only thing I had to offer,” she wrote. Several other women later came forward with similar allegations.

Following the accusations, the indie rock band Martha announced that they would not go ahead with a forthcoming run of UK tour dates in support of Brand New. Also, folk singer Kevin Devine took to Twitter to announce that he won’t be performing with the band on the same upcoming tour.

“I’m heartbroken for her and for every person who absorbs and subsequently has to figure out how to live with this type of trauma,” Devine wrote. “We all need to do a lot better, myself very much included.”

Lacey’s cancellation and apology

Over the weekend, Lacey responded to the allegations via the band’s Facebook page. While Lacey responded to Garvey’s allegations by apologizing for “the for the hurt [he has] caused” without addressing Garvey’s specific claims about his behavior.

The singer explained that at one point in his life he “developed a dependent and addictive relationship with sex” and that he was a “habitual cheater” before seeking treatment for his issues.

I am sorry for how I have hurt people, mistreated them, lied, and cheated,” Lacey wrote. “I am sorry for ignoring the way in which my position, status, and power as a member of a band affected the way people viewed me or their approach to their interactions with me.”

And I am sorry for how often I have not afforded women the respect, support, or honesty that they deserved, and which is their right.”

On Monday morning, Brand New announced on its Facebook page the cancellation of the upcoming shows. “Due to the events of the last few days, Brand New will be postponing its upcoming three shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland,” the band wrote on Facebook.
