Some bittersweet news for Once Upon a Time fans. On Monday, Jennifer Morrison took to Instagram to announce her decision to leave the show after 6 seasons.
Though the news comes as sad, the actress announced she’s super down to making appearances in the show, and also said she will continue to meet fans in conventions.
It’s a goodbye, for now
Jennifer Morrison penned a beautiful goodbye for fans via Instagram. The actress, who plays Emma Swan in the beloved ABC show decided to leave the show as her network contract meets the end.
In the post, she explained how she’s ready to move on in her career as time seems right. The actress also promised fans that she will continue to make appearances at fan conventions. She also explained she’s able to make occasional appearances on the show to help to give a proper end to Emma’s storyline.
The actress also pointed out how Emma is one of her favorite characters ever, as she thanked the fan base and the shows’ creators, as well as ABC.
Moving on to new roles
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress opened up about the decision after 13 years on ABC, and six seasons on the fantasy show.
She said, “Obviously any decision like this is really tricky because I care tremendously about the show and about everyone involved in the show. I’ve loved being there, but six years is a very long time. I did six years on House, and then I did a year on How I Met Your Mother, and then I did six years on Once Upon a Time. I needed personally to move on to new things.”
For Morrison, filming requires spending a lot of time in Vancouver, away from her homes in New York and Los Angeles.
The actress has flown back and forth for over a decade and is looking forward to spending some time in her house, as well as joining new projects.
“As much as I love the show, I ultimately had to do what was right for me, and I need to be home,” she told TVLine. “I need to be in New York, in L.A., I need to be around my family and friends and have a chance at a personal life, and to have opportunities to do new things creatively.”
Morrison’s co-stars and the show’s creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis are fully supportive of her decision, “Obviously, it’s bittersweet on both sides. We all love each other,” she continued to EW. “I love Adam and Eddy, and I love everyone on the show, so it’s tough. But it’s also a family. We’ve become a family. We’ve worked so closely with each other over the last six years that you really do become a family, and you know each other very, very well.”
