It has been an incredible year for animation fans, and especially for 90’s early 2000 kids. Samurai Jack returned to our screens, finally Rick and Morty released a Season 3 episode and now Invader Zim is back.
The incredible “invasion” news were officially stated by Nickelodeon. As they say that Zim will be back but in a TV movie format, that will roughly last 90 minutes. The movie will end many fans desires for more absurd and silly Irken invations. Since the show’s popularity has grown more and more over the years.
Invasion statement
Nickelodeon released a video with a creepy evil voice stating that the days of humans are counted. Then as the “terrifying and spooky” voice is interrupted and annoyed, by GIR, we discover that it’s Zim. Being this pretty exciting news for anyone with a wicked sense of humor or any fan of the show.
On the other hand, one of the most exciting things about Invader Zim’s upcoming movie is that it will count with its original voice cast. With Richard Horvitz as Zim, Rosearik Rikki Simons as GIR, the crazy and annoying robot sidekick, Andy Berman as Dib, paranormal investigator and Zim’s human nemesis; and Melissa Fahn as Gaz, Dib’s video game obsessed sister. They’ll announced any additional casting in the following months.
Along with all of that the original cartoonist and creator of the show Jhonen Vasquez is aboard on the project. The only thing we know so far is that it will follow the latest, greatest, most ridiculous and desperate Earth-domination/destruction plan by the universe’s worst alien invader. As Zim craves the attention and acceptance from his Irken leaders, the Almighty Tallest.
“As a network that prides itself on a 25-year history of creating groundbreaking, hilarious animation for kids, Invader Zim is one of our great loves. It’s been so exciting to see its popularity grow over the last decade through social media, consumer products, and the Zim comic books.” said Chris Viscardi, Senior Vice President, Content Development and Production, Animation, at Nickelodeon.
Irken intelligence
“What makes this announcement extra thrilling is the adventure that Jhonen has created for Zim, and I can promise you that it is as wonderfully absurd and strangely heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for, and kids seeing it for the first time will love it too.” Viscardi continued.
Even though many believed Zim went back to his planet he hasn’t. A comic book series based on the show was released two years ago. Creator Jhonen Vasquez collaborated with Nickelodeon and Oni Press, continuing the series storyline.
Jhonen Vasquez also stated: “I’m always confused when people say how much they miss Invader Zim because the show never stopped running in my head, and then I remember everyone else isn’t in my head.” Being its first issue released on July 8, 2015, and being published monthly since then.
According to Vasquez, the TV movie was all a part of his evil plan. Since in March 2010, episodes of Invader Zim were rerun on Nicktoons becoming the second highest-rated show on the network. To what was a plan by the network to see if a Zim revival could be done. Along with that in September 2015 Nickelodeon said that some of their old shows were being considered for a revival, including Invader Zim.
Zim joins the previously announced TV movies of Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie and Rocko’s Modern Life TV special. Both in production right now. Hey Arnold!: The Jungle Movie will answer a major plothole of the story, solving the unanswered questions of his missing parents. The Rocko’s Modern Life TV special will bring back all the show’s classic characters and offer some surprising new takes on life in O-Town.
