Pizza can always be delivered faster, especially when we are starving and the waiting time seems like an eternity. Well, Domino’s pizza has started a new delivery method, in association with the drone company Flirtey.
Even though many had their doubts about using a drone to deliver pizza, it really works. The order takes from two to three minutes to arrive at your house. Which is half of the time it would take if it were delivered by motorcycle. The company posted the video of this pizza “technological advance” on their Facebook page.
The first drone pizza delivery was successfully made.
The customer ordered a peri-peri chicken pizza and cranberry pizza, weird choice, but we won’t judge, it arrived on Wednesday at 11:19 am local time in a New Zeland’s suburb of Whangaparaoa, 25 kilometers (15 miles) north of Auckland.
Due to the name of the place no wonder why they’re trying to get a drone to do the job.
The delivery was a crucial step to getting all the paperwork and regulations approved in order.
The drone was autonomously controlled using a GPS navigation system, but with a drone expert team and pilot supervising everything to ensure a successful delivery.
It involved a lot of effort.
Don Meij, Domino’s Pizza Enterprises chief executive, said that the lead-up to this delivery involved a number factors like trials, adjusting food temperatures, and some coordination with the government.
Domino’s want to continue testing this drone technology with customers.
As they explore drone delivery “opportunities” they are trying to expand to six other markets including Australia, Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Japan, and Germany.
The company’s thoughts
“We will be conducting more delivery flights to customers from the Whangaparaoa store this week and will use the information we gather to expand drone flights to a larger DRU Drone by Flirtey delivery area next year,” Domino’s Group CEO Don Meij stated.
