The Guinness World Record has a spot for a bearded female who’s facial hair has changed the way most of us see the world. We want you to get to know Harnaam Kaur, and so we give you 15 facts about her.
1. Harnaam Kaur a 24-year-old woman from Slough, Berkshire, has the Guinness World Record for bearded woman.
2. She has 6-inch-long facial hair because of a condition called PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrom), with which she was diagnosed at the age of 11.
3. Kaur suffered years of bullying because of her condition, but at the age of 16, she decided to – very courageously, different from what we tend to do – embrace her body and stopped struggling with her facial hair. She became the bearded woman.
4. She is now an antibullying activist and runs campaigns in favor of positive body image.
5. “Once we unconditionally fall in love with ourselves and our bodies, the taunts of others won’t effect on us anymore. Self-Love and empowerment starts from within. It is a journey that each and every one of us should aim to travel on, it is extremely liberating and beautiful…” – she said.
6. She is said to be very inspiring as you meet her. People can’t stop talking about her.
7. In March 2016 she became the first bearded female to walk the runway at London Fashion Week.
8. She describes her beard as a way to cope with the long years that she suffered.
9. She says that she still has to deal with bullying but that she knows how to handle it and that she feels empowered.
10. She even admits she hated her body and that she harmed herself back when she hadn’t adapted.
11. Even suicide was considered because of the rejection to her body.
12. She shaved at first because she only had her in her neck, but then it started expanding and so it grew to be the amazing beard she has today.
13. She lives her life to the fullest and tries to leave a message for children to love themselves as they are.
14. She even believes that she came to this world with a purpose of helping people to be confident and comfortable.
15. She has now fully embraced her body and her portrait from the London Fashion Week was included as part of the photography series.
